Salary

Responsibilities

  • We’re looking for additional part-time Political Researchers to watch and provide accurate and succinct summaries of selected parliamentary debates and select committees taking place at the Houses of Parliament in Westminster. All sessions are streamed online and can be summarised from home.
  • When Parliament is sitting, each Researcher will have the opportunity to produce summaries of two to three sessions (approximately 8-12 hours in total), largely in the afternoons and evenings.
  • This role suits students in full-time university education or applicants who can  demonstrate they have other part-time commitments/work, around which they are looking to fit 8-12 hours of work each week the UK Parliament is sitting. The majority of the sessions take place on Tuesdays and Wednesdays, with some sessions on Mondays and Thursdays.
  • NB if you have just left university or are looking for a full-time role, this role probably isn’t the one for you, but please keep an eye out for future full-time roles we advertise.

What are we looking for:

  • Excellent analytical skills – You would be required to summarise complex and challenging sessions quickly and effectively so an attention to detail and ability to select and record key pieces of information are required
  • Strong interest in politics – The role requires a strong interest in politics and a basic understanding of UK parliamentary procedure
  • Flexibility and Reliability – The role will require flexibility in working-hours, determined by the timings of select committees and debates and the number of hours the Researcher can reasonably take on, and a commitment to return completed summaries by 0800 the following morning.
  • Excellent IT skills – Successful candidates will be able to touch-type and rapidly create, edit and format documents in Microsoft Word

Closing Date: 18 August 2025

Interview/Start Dates

Successful first stage candidates will be invited to take part in a trial and subsequently a virtual interview. The role will start when Parliament returns from the Conference Recess in October 2025.
